Along the Vista Sprinter rail line, Boulderscape turned a plain grey-broom wall into antiqued masonry — sculpting 4,900 square feet of structural and architectural shotcrete into a Vista Ashlar finish, delivered in 4 days at 37% below traditional construction.

The retaining wall along the Vista Sprinter mainline was originally designed with a plain gray broom finish. To demonstrate the architectural possibilities of shotcrete, Boulderscape developed a series of photo simulations illustrating alternative finish options. After reviewing the concepts, the Sprinter organization selected Boulderscape's Vista Ashlar finish for the project.
Boulderscape hand sculpted the Vista Ashlar finish across the entire wall surface, creating the appearance of traditional stone masonry. Accent colors were then applied to selected blocks throughout the wall to produce a weathered, antiqued appearance with natural color variation and added visual depth.
The project encompassed 4,900 square feet of wall surface consisting of an 8" thick structural shotcrete section with an average 2" thick architectural relief over a soil nail wall system using a 4,500 PSI mix design. The entire scope was completed in just 4 days, delivering a durable retaining wall solution that enhanced the visual character of the corridor. 37% under traditional cast in place construction.
