A multi tiered soil nail wall was constructed adjacent to St. Timothy Church to provide long term slope stabilization while enhancing the appearance of the church grounds. The project required more than a traditional retaining wall, incorporating landscape elements that would soften the structure and blend it into the surrounding environment.
Boulderscape developed and installed its Escondido Granite finish across the entire wall surface while integrating large planter pockets and an irrigation system directly into the structural wall. The hand sculpted finish replicated the appearance of native granite formations, allowing vegetation to become part of the architectural design and creating a natural backdrop for the church campus.
The project encompassed 7,500 square feet of wall surface consisting of an 8" thick structural shotcrete section with an average 3" thick architectural relief over a soil nail wall system using a 4,500 PSI mix design. The entire scope was completed in just 4 days, delivering a durable retaining wall solution that combined structural performance with integrated landscaping and architectural finishes. 34% under traditional cast in place construction.
