A large tie back wall was required to stabilize a failing Keystone block retaining wall at the Siemens facility. In addition to restoring the structural integrity of the slope, the owner wanted the new retaining wall to blend naturally with the existing rock formations on the adjacent hillside. Boulderscape's Connecticut Granite finish was selected to provide an architectural solution that complemented the surrounding landscape.
Boulderscape hand sculpted the finish across the entire wall surface, incorporating natural fractures, relief, and rock textures that replicated the appearance of native stone. A Midtown Gray stain was applied to match the surrounding geology and create a seamless transition between the engineered retaining wall and the natural hillside.
The project encompassed 18,130 square feet of wall surface consisting of a 12" thick structural shotcrete section with an average 6" thick architectural relief over a tie back wall system using a 5,000 PSI mix design. The entire scope was completed in just 8 days, delivering a durable retaining wall solution that blended naturally into the surrounding environment. 41% under traditional cast in place construction.
