A custom hillside residence in Los Angeles required a retaining wall system to stabilize the slope while accommodating a serpentine driveway leading to the garages below. The owner wanted the retaining wall to follow the existing contours of the hillside and blend naturally with the surrounding rock formations rather than appear as a conventional engineered structure.
Boulderscape constructed the retaining wall with integrated planter pockets, drip irrigation lines, and a comprehensive drainage system built directly into the wall. The Corona Granite finish was then hand sculpted across the entire surface, incorporating natural fractures, relief, and rock textures that complemented the surrounding landscape and enhanced the architectural character of the property.
The project encompassed 7,498 square feet of wall surface consisting of a 10" thick structural shotcrete section with an average 6" thick architectural relief over a soil nail wall system using a 4,500 PSI mix design. The entire scope was completed in just 6 days, delivering a durable retaining wall solution that integrated seamlessly into the surrounding hillside. 20% under traditional cast in place construction.
