The Pointe Monarch housing development in Dana Point required an architectural finish that would soften the appearance of a newly constructed soil nail wall system and blend naturally with the surrounding landscape. After reviewing several architectural options, the homeowners association selected Boulderscape's Oregon Granite finish for its ability to replicate the area's native rock formations.
Boulderscape hand sculpted the Oregon Granite finish across the entire wall surface, incorporating natural fractures, relief, and rock textures to create the appearance of a weathered rock outcrop. A medium earth stain was applied to complement the surrounding landscape and seamlessly integrate the retaining wall into the community.
The project encompassed 5,680 square feet of wall surface consisting of a 10" thick structural shotcrete section with an average 3" thick architectural relief over a soil nail wall system using a 4,500 PSI mix design. The entire scope was completed in just 4 days, delivering a durable retaining wall solution that blended naturally into the surrounding environment. 34% under traditional cast in place construction.
