The Paradise Walk development in San Diego required an architectural retaining wall that would complement the surrounding community while helping maintain an aggressive construction schedule and project budget. The developer selected Boulderscape's San Diego Ashlar finish to provide the appearance of natural stone while taking advantage of the speed and efficiency of shotcrete construction.
Boulderscape hand sculpted the San Diego Ashlar finish across the entire wall surface, carefully replicating the proportions and texture of traditional ashlar stone masonry. A light earth stain was applied to create natural color variation and enhance the appearance of weathered stone, providing an architectural finish that complemented the surrounding development.
The project encompassed 4,300 square feet of wall surface consisting of a 12" thick structural shotcrete section with an average 2" thick architectural relief over a soldier pile wall system using a 5,000 PSI mix design. The entire scope was completed in just 3 days, delivering a durable retaining wall solution that combined architectural appeal with accelerated construction. 36% under traditional cast in place construction.
