Along Route 12 in Napa Valley, Boulderscape sculpted 201,400 square feet of structural and architectural shotcrete into a hand-carved Napa Granite finish — Caltrans slope-stabilization walls built to blend into the wine country, delivered in 71 days at 37% below traditional construction.

To stabilize a series of steepened slopes along Route 12 in Napa Valley, Caltrans designed multiple soil nail walls to reduce the risk of future slope failures. Because the project was located within one of California's most scenic corridors, both Caltrans and the City of Napa sought an architectural finish that would blend naturally with the surrounding hillsides while maintaining an attractive appearance for the traveling public.
Boulderscape developed and installed its Napa Granite finish across more than 201,400 square feet of wall surface. The hand sculpted finish was stained using a dark earth color palette designed to complement the natural terrain and minimize the visual impact of the retaining walls within the landscape.
The project consisted of a 16" thick structural shotcrete section with an average 4" thick architectural relief over a soil nail wall system using a 4,000 PSI mix design. The entire scope was completed in 71 days, resulting in a durable slope stabilization system that blended seamlessly into the surrounding Napa Valley environment.
