Along a forest access road near Lake Tahoe, an existing stacked block MSE retaining wall contrasted sharply with the surrounding natural landscape. The project objective was to improve the appearance of the wall by creating an architectural finish that reflected the area's native granite formations and restored the visual character of the corridor. Boulderscape's Lake Tahoe Blend finish was selected to achieve this goal.
Boulderscape installed an architectural shotcrete facing over the existing wall and hand sculpted the Lake Tahoe Blend finish across the entire surface. A Sequoia Granite stain was applied to replicate the color and texture of the surrounding rock formations, allowing the retaining wall to blend naturally into the forested environment.
The project encompassed 2,940 square feet of wall surface consisting of an 8" thick structural shotcrete section with an average 3" thick architectural relief over an existing cast wall using a 4,000 PSI mix design. The entire scope was completed in just 3 days, delivering a durable architectural wall facing that restored the natural appearance of the surrounding landscape. 35% under traditional cast in place construction.
