A new soil nail wall was constructed adjacent to Indian Valley High School in Pennsylvania to provide long term slope stabilization while maintaining an attractive campus environment. Because the retaining wall would remain highly visible from the school, the owner selected Boulderscape's Penn Granite finish to soften the appearance of the structure and blend it into the surrounding landscape.
Boulderscape hand sculpted the Penn Granite finish across the entire wall surface, incorporating natural fractures, relief, and rock textures inspired by the local geology. A warm clay stain was applied to create natural color variation and enhance the appearance of a weathered rock outcrop that complemented the campus setting.
The project encompassed 17,490 square feet of wall surface consisting of an 8" thick structural shotcrete section with an average 3" thick architectural relief over a soil nail wall system using a 4,500 PSI mix design.
