As part of Cleveland's I 90 Inner Belt project, an existing retaining wall required an extension that matched the original architectural block finish. Because the original block had been discontinued and no comparable product was available, the project team turned to Boulderscape to recreate the appearance using architectural shotcrete.
Boulderscape hand sculpted a 1/2 Running Bond Block finish across the new wall section, carefully matching the size, texture, joint layout, and appearance of the existing masonry. The completed extension blended seamlessly with the original wall, creating the appearance of a single continuous structure.
The project encompassed 6,240 square feet of wall surface consisting of an 8" thick structural shotcrete section with an average 2" thick architectural relief over an existing cast wall using a 5,000 PSI mix design. The entire scope was completed in just 3 days, delivering a durable architectural wall extension that matched the existing retaining wall. 52% under traditional cast in place construction.
