A large structural retaining wall was designed near the entrance of Charlotte Airport. The original plan called for a cast-in-place wall system; however, the complexity of the bracing plates and cross members made traditional casting nearly impossible. Boulderscape proposed a shotcrete installation as an alternative. Although the shotcrete method was more expensive, the improved constructibility and significant time savings outweighed the additional cost. Boulderscape successfully installed 8,550 square feet of 16” thick structural shotcrete with a class A steel trowel finish.
