At Casoleil Apartments, Boulderscape blended a 25,000-square-foot shoring wall into the landscape — sculpting structural and architectural shotcrete into a San Ysidro Granite finish placed monolithically, delivered in 10 days at 36% below traditional construction.

For the Casoleil Apartments development, the owner wanted a retaining wall finish that would blend naturally into the surrounding landscape and vegetation. Boulderscape selected its San Ysidro Granite finish, a hand sculpted architectural treatment designed to replicate the appearance of the native granite formations found throughout the region.
To maximize construction efficiency, Boulderscape utilized a monolithic placement approach, installing the temporary, structural, and architectural shotcrete layers as a single integrated operation. This method streamlined production, reduced construction time, and eliminated the need for multiple placement phases while maintaining the required structural and architectural performance.
The project encompassed 24,500 square feet of wall surface consisting of a 14" thick structural shotcrete section with an average 5" thick architectural relief over a soil nail wall system using a 5,000 PSI mix design. The entire scope was completed in just 10 days, delivering a durable retaining wall solution that blended seamlessly into the surrounding environment while optimizing construction efficiency.
