Bellevue Hospital required a large soil nail wall to support the expansion of its parking facilities while maintaining an attractive appearance adjacent to the hospital campus. The owner and general contractor selected Boulderscape's Bellevue Ashlar finish because it provided the appearance of natural stone while offering a more economical and efficient alternative to conventional construction methods.
Boulderscape hand sculpted the Bellevue Ashlar finish across the entire wall surface, creating oversized ashlar blocks ranging from 12" to 30" in length to maintain proper scale with the large retaining wall. A weathered earth stain was applied to complement the colors of the hospital buildings and create a cohesive architectural appearance throughout the site.
The project encompassed 18,130 square feet of wall surface consisting of an 8" thick structural shotcrete section with an average 2" thick architectural relief over a soil nail wall system using a 5,000 PSI mix design. The entire scope was completed in just 20 days, delivering a durable retaining wall solution that complemented the hospital campus while maintaining an efficient construction schedule. 41% under traditional cast in place construction.
